The Cabin in the Woods

Loved this!! If you like horror, thrillers, or even intense action films, you should see The Cabin in the Woods…

Written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard (who also directs), this movie shows that the horror / thriller can still be told in a fresh way. Whedon shows a lot of his ingenuity in this script with the film making you guess where it’s going and surprising you in a cool way when you get there. The history behind what’s going on in the story is one of the things you try to guess at but will probably guess wrong. That’s what I loved about the way it’s set up, it’s done in a really smart and interesting way that breathed life back into what can often be a stale genre.

I usually like to describe the story when I write a review, but not this time gentle reader, I refuse out of sheer principle as you should see it yourself and I don’t want to spoil anything for you.

The stereotypes for a teenagers-getting-killed-in-the-woods movie you expect are there but so are a lot of other characters you don’t expect. The actors make the whole film fun to watch and all play their roles with a fun and enthusiastic energy. The talented cast includes Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Richard Jenkins, and Bradley Whiford.

The effects and makeup are really well designed and executed, everything looks really authentic, especially when things ramp up and get out of control towards the climax. Lots of effects here.

I’ll stop there, just see The Cabin in the Woods!
